SUMMARY OF DUTIES 
The Communications Intern plays a key role in supporting Amtrak's Corporate Communications team in its overall mission to develop, coordinate, implement and manage effective communication campaigns. Specifically, this position will assist in developing plans and content for Amtrak’s upcoming 50th Anniversary celebration in 2021 as well as assist our Creative Services team with capturing and managing creative content. 
 
Under the guidance of the Corporate Communications Senior Managers, this position is responsible for support of the Corporate Communications team and will learn and assist in the development, coordination and execution of proactive communications plans and activities related to the planning of Amtrak’s 50th Anniversary. In addition, this position is expected to support the needs of the Amtrak Creative Services team. 
 
This individual is expected to partner and collaborate effectively with employees at all levels and locations at Amtrak. The position produces a range of written and graphics content and the individual must live by Amtrak's Core Values and business behaviors, as well as write and plan effectively, exhibit keen attention to detail, think and act proactively, and drive continual improvement in Amtrak's communications effectiveness.
 
The selected candidate must be open to travel throughout the Northeast Corridor Region
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
•   Supports corporate priorities and helps execute company’s 50th Anniversary campaign 
•   Creates and curates engaging content 
•   Creates graphics and infographics 
•   Identifies opportunities for internal and external engagement 
•   Supports other duties as assigned 
•   Attends meetings and takes notes 
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
•   Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate/graduate degree in public relations, communications, English, journalism, multimedia design, graphic design or a related field at an accredited educational institution 
•   Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophomore status at minimum 
•   Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher 
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 
•   Must have excellent oral and written communication skills 
•   Project management experience 
•   Knowledge of effective communications best practices 
•   Strong interpersonal skills, tact, and collaboration proficiency 
•   Excellent organizational skills 
•   Ability to work and thrive in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment 
•   Ability to work and manage multiple projects, simultaneously and provide ongoing metrics on activities 
•   Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite 
•   Demonstrated skill in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and social media tools 
•   Photo and video experience 
•  Ability to provide writing sample and/or portfolio of digital media work
