STARTING PAY RATE: $22.86 - $25.88 per hour based on a 35-hour work week. Salary dependent on qualifications. The salary range for this position is $22.86 - $34.86 This position is represented by a union; you may refer to the AFSCME collective bargaining agreement available on our website.

JOB SUMMARY:
This position processes the submittals of permits and licenses as necessary; performs general office work involving a variety of clerical procedures including payment processing and completion of Freedom of Information Act requests. This position interfaces with customers as a primary component of the job and provides customer assistance in person and over the phone.
 
To succeed in this role, applicants will need to work cooperatively and effectively with others, be an adept and versatile learner, and be able to put others at ease. We are looking to add a team member capable of remaining calm and professional under pressure.
 
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Bilingual skills a plus; Spanish and Polish highly preferred. 

QUALIFICATIONS:
1.   Education equivalent to a high school diploma.
2.   A minimum of one year of experience in customer service working in a face paced office environment.
3.   Proficiency with current computer software systems, including email, calendar programs, job specific software, and customer service systems preferred or within the first six months of employment.
Considerable knowledge of office practices and procedures and business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and commercial arithmetic Working knowledge of the operation and care of office machines. Ability to type extremely accurately at a working rate of speed. Ability to maintain and develop systems of clerical records, and to prepare reports from such records. Ability to write legibly and to understand oral and written instructions.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1.   This position works in a typical office setting.
2.   Prolonged periods of standing at the permit counter or prolonged periods of sitting and performing data entry.
3.   Position works with the public almost continuously during the day and must demonstrate advanced level customer service skills, including the ability to listen effectively, handle a variety of customers, and remain calm under pressure.
4.   Ability to cope with numerous interruptions.
5.   Frequent transporting of 20 pounds.
