Title:  Communications Intern 
LOCATION: Washington, D.C. 
REPORTS TO: Communications Manager 
Friends of the Global Fight is an advocacy organization that works to increase public awareness and understanding of the Global Fund as well as knowledge about HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. We are seeking a hardworking, self-starting intern to join our team. Interns will work directly with members of the Communications Department on substantive projects. Due to the nature of our small office environment, however, the intern will work with members of all our departments and gain exposure to all aspects of our cross-functional organization. This individual will work with the Communications Department on projects related to global health advocacy, supporting outreach to audiences including Members of Congress, the media and partner organizations both in the U.S. and globally. Activities may include research, supporting social media and website content management, drafting materials, assisting with congressional and academic events, monitoring and analyzing media coverage, and liaising with partners in the advocacy and global health community. The intern will participate in meetings with staff and organizational partners, as well as take advantage of health-related events in Washington, D.C.  
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 
  • Knowledge of or interest in global health and/or foreign policy 
  • Interest in news media and/or media relations 
  • Solid research skills 
  • Ability to take initiative, multitask, work quickly and be flexible 
  • Strong attention to detail 
  • Capacity to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communications skills 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point 
 
Knowledge of software programs including Adobe Creative Suite (particularly Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign) and Constant Contact a plus. 
Required Education: 
Awarded or pursuing undergraduate degree (junior or senior preferred), graduate degree or beyond.
