Summer DC Area Virtual Crew Leader

The Student Conservation Association (SCA), America’s #1 conservation service organization seeks qualified applicants to lead, educate, and inspire high school students for the virtual crew program.
Program Dates: July 5 – August 6, 2021
Training Dates: June 21- June 25, 2021 (mandatory paid training, training will take place virtually)
Primary Responsibilities:
As Crew Leader, you will be working with a co-lead to guide and inspire two teams of high school students through SCA’s virtual crew program. This will be SCA’s second year running a virtual program given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This program gives high school students a unique opportunity to develop their interest in the environmental world, meet new people, learn about potential career paths, and create their own advocacy project. This 5 week program follows a curriculum which focuses on a theme for each week. These themes are; teambuilding, environmental literacy, environmental justice, career exploration, and advocacy & action. Leaders will facilitate lessons and provide support to members as they progress through the program. Outside of direct program implementation leaders will be responsible for planning weekly sessions. Leaders will meet with each team, through Zoom, twice a week for a roughly three hour session per day. There is no in-person component to the program. All programming will take place virtually.
Specifically, the Crew Leader will:
· Act as a Crew Supervisor, by facilitating teamwork, managing group sessions, and guiding crew dynamics
· Serve as an Advisor, by mentoring personal and professional development, and teaching environmental stewardship
· Perform tasks as a Program Administrator, by organizing logistics, completing documentation, managing a budget, and communicating with SCA staff
Qualifications:
· Experience working with youth or young adults
· Teaching or environmental education a plus
· Must be able to attend Crew Leader training: June 21- 25
· Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
· Must have ability to legally work in the US
· Must be able to meet SCA’s criminal background check standards
· Leader can be based anywhere but personal connection to or knowledge of the DC metro area is a plus
Compensation: $675/week total salary during position, plus $675 for week of virtual training
